Single Touch Payroll rollout by Xero to comply with July 1 payroll changes

For Business
July 31, 2018

From 1 July 2018, employers with 20 or more employees must report their employee’s tax and super information to the ATO through their payroll software. This software is required to be Single Touch Payroll (STP) ready. Xero, our recommended accounting software, complies with this but rollout varies depending on your subscription.

For those who held a subscription prior to 1 July 2018:

Xero plans to roll STP out to you between September and December this year. If this is you, rest assured that Xero have a deferral number that covers their subscribers reporting obligations until STP is rolled out in full. There is a low possibility that the ATO will call our clients regarding their reporting obligations. If you do hear from the ATO regarding this, please state reference number 49410109. In the meantime, take the time to ensure your entity details in Xero are correct.

Once STP is activated for your subscription, there will be a banner notification in your Xero File. You can then follow the prompts to set up STP.

For those who join Xero after 1 July 2018:

STP will be immediately available to any business that join Xero and have 20 or more employees.

Stay up to date with the STP transition

We are working closely with Xero and the ATO to ensure that this transition is a smooth transition. Updates will be communicated in the newsletter or as we know it, posted on our Canberra Facebook Page and our Brisbane Facebook Page. Should you have any further questions, please contact us.
